AGM Minutes Summary
The Swieqi Overseas Rugby Club AGM was held on Wednesday 23rd July at the MRFU Clubhouse, in Marsa Sports Ground. The president of the club welcomed all that where present. The agenda became apparent when the meeting started and was split into 5 sections:
- Reading of the minutes of previous AGM;
- Report of the secretary and club captian;
- Presentation of statement and Income and expenditure;
- Presidential Address and
- Election of the 2013/2014 committee.
The minutes of the AGM for the previous season (2012/2013) where read and where unanimously approved without amendments.
The second topic was more fruitful and covered the progression of both senior sections in the club. This included both the Men’s Section and the Women’s Section of the club.
It was well noted that club recruited several new players in the beginning of the season, including most of the players from B’kara Alligators Rugby club. The estimated head count during training was 40-45 players while to the end of the season there was around 25-35 players.
It must be noted that the women section suffered some losses of players in the beginning of the season which made it difficult for the team to compete as much as they wanted.
It is interesting to note that the club as a whole managed to compete in all available senior competitions!
In terms of statistics the men’s team conceeded no walk overs and managed to field a full team including substitutes for every game. It has become well know that the Men’s team managed to win the following titles:
- 1st Division Cisk League
- 2nd Division Cisk League
- 1st Division Mediterranean Bank Cup Champions
- VII Rugby Malta Champions
The women’s section did not manage to win any title however competed with the best teams in the competition.
The club would like to congratulate three of its own players, Vince Stivala, Roderick Borg and Sairita Cassar, that made it into the national men’s and women’s rugby teams. It is important to note that several other players have also been engaged in the Malta National Rugby A setup.
