History Of Overseas
Originally formed on the 11th November 1946, the club was the first to be created here. We developed rugby on the island and have played the leading role in the game throughout this time.
Players moving to Malta, or passing through, have always been welcomed at our club. We have a blend of multi – national and Maltese players who have a passion for the game. Many players refer to the Overseas family, which reflects the affection they have for the club and its unique culture.
In recent years we have seen players from both our men’s and women’s teams selected to play for Malta. Throughout our history we have also seen former players who have gone on to play senior rugby around the world, some becoming players and captains of their home international teams. Other former members have gone on to be senior administrators in the game, both here and abroad.
Because of our history and reputation, we have been fortunate to host numerous visiting teams who enjoy visiting our club and the island. Perhaps the most famous of these was the prestigious Barbarians team, which was a great honour for the club.
75th Anniversary
On the occasion of the club’s seventy fifth anniversary, we received numerous messages and videos of support from some of the all time greats of the game around the world. We believe this reflects the reputation and respect the club has, and we are always pleased to hear from anyone who has an interest in the game.
